As artists we can often search endlessly for the perfect subject to paint. I try to recognize when I slip into that trap and remind myself that everything I need is in front of me right now, there is nothing wrong with the subject at hand, I just need to be receptive to what's being offered.
This dirt pile kept catching my attention, so I relented and painted it. I ended up really enjoying the subtle light on the horizon, the illuminated foliage at the edge of the dirt pile, and the warm glow in the sky. That's more than enough.
